Let's go on a short journey back in time to look a bit closer at how 'Quietly' was given birth... It must have
been sometime around December 2001 when we were deep into „Songwriting-Mode“
after having had a 6-week break following the festival season. We had
dictated ourselves a (for our band fairly disciplined) working plan which
meant meeting in Göttingen three days a week, working on new material
or just jamming to get some new ideas and inspirations. I’d had
a short break in the beginning of december for the recording session with
Herbert Groenemeyer in London, and I recall playing him and his producer
Alex Silva a CD with the first rough demos of „Scratch the
pitch“ and „Counting the days“
which we had just done shortly before my journey.
Started somehow by accident, or let’s call it a detuned guitar, or me just fingering the wrong notes, or a heavenly vision, or... who ever knows...! The best songs often are the ones, noone can explain where they came from. Sometimes we keep on jamming for 20 minutes and afterwards you look at each other with smiling faces and think „where the heck did that song come from?!“ That’s exactly the way it happened with 'Quietly'! I happened
to play this weird noisy tones in the intro and everybody said
Stefan later
added some more harmonies in the bridge part which was a great idea accompanying
my guitar arpeggio. That finished our compositional approach to „Quietly“
and in the end of January 2002 I played the first demo
to our producer Fabio Trentini. I didn’t tell him
it was a Guano Apes track and he didn’t even noticed until the 2nd
chorus when he realized it was Sandra’s voice and I couldn’t
help bursting out in loughter anymore.
It’s still one of my all-time Guano Apes favourites and marked a milestone for us during the songwriting period when we all realized: „Yes, we can make another record and there are going to be some extraordinary songs on there!“ We are very
happy and excited that 'Quietly' made it all the way
to be the third single of the album now and we hope you agree that this
is not only
That's what I call to mind when I think of this title, and I hope that you share my enthusiasm for the song!

Henning - * For reasons of time, the videos are not on the CD itself this time, instead, they are available only via the Internet access. Our designer Friedel had to hand over the setting copies for the cover before we shot the clip and all the other things. Nevertheless, we really wanted to offer you something special again. And if you know our CDs at all there is, once again, a whole lot for you in store – almost 30 minutes of video infos! |
