This CD features recordings of the earliest Guano Apes demo tapes. These are recordings originating from 1994 and 1995, including some songs that ended up later on our albums.

“Your Song”, “Hanoi” (later ‘La Noix’) and Maria were contained on our first cassette demo, and they were recorded by Fabio Trentini at the ‘Nesta Youth Center’ on a 4-track cassette machine and a portable DAT recorder!

Stefan was taking bass lessons back then from Fabio, and Fabio offered to record a couple of demos with us. We were thrilled to finally record our songs and be able to sell them as demos at the gigs for roughly the equivalent back then of 2 Euros apiece. I still remember that we weren’t sure whether we should spend the extra money for the booklet copies...

“Diokhan” was originally recorded at the end of 1994 on our second demo with Fabio, but it still took another 8 years before it ended up in its final version on “Walking On A Thin Line”. During all that time, we kept digging out this riff again and adding new parts, only to abandon it again.

“Open Your Eyes”, “Ignaz” (later ‘Suzie’), “Get Busy” and “Rain” are the versions from the second and third cassette demos, and they served as the layouts for the recordings on “Proud Like A God”. You can hear the work and the changes done with Wolfgang Stach in the studio on all the songs before they reached their final album versions. The intro to “Open Your Eyes” was recorded on the album just like on the demo, and was finally formed into the intro you’re familiar with in our last studio session before the mix.

“Wasserfliege” is a song that we used to love to play at gigs as the opener because of its great groove. But in the final tally, it didn’t make it onto the album...

“Come And Feel”, “Running Away” and “Dreamin’” were recorded in 1995 at Würfel-Studio in Uslar, Germany, in our first studio experience! “Dreamin” appeared later renamed “Longplay” on our third cassette demo. The other two songs have remained outtakes until now. ;-)
